Lemon Tree uses materials and techniques to bring out the multitude of experiences within the environmental changes in Lebanon. For example, in the series Lemon Tree, the use of a plastic tablecloth with a lemon motif represents the fruits that come from my hometown, Minieh. In the past, this city had many lemon and orange trees before it underwent massive construction projects for giant buildings. Now we see more waste, like plastic, and fewer trees. This work captures the common experience that those living in Minieh can feel as we witness these changes to our city, which could be visualized as “estranging” the body or making the body strange.
